Merit Health Biloxi Celebrates Doctors’ Day with Donation to Gulf Coast Community Ministries
3/27/2024
The celebration of Doctors' Day dates back to 1933 in Winder, Georgia, where the wife of a doctor first began the annual recognition of physicians and their commitment to their patients and to the medical field.
Continuing in the tradition, Merit Health Biloxi honored and recognized its medical staff members through a donation in their honor to a local charity.
“We are proud to honor the dedication and positive impact our medical staff has on our community,” said Dwayne Blaylock, interim CEO of Merit Health Biloxi. “We believe honoring physicians through charitable giving such as this is a great way to address social determinants of health, support local nonprofit organizations, and create goodwill in the community.”
The medical executive committee of Merit Health Biloxi voted that Gulf Coast Community Ministries would be the recipient of this year’s donation which totaled $2,500.
Gulf Coast Community Ministries works to alleviate the nutritional, physical and spiritual needs of impoverished people who live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Their food pantry feeds more than 9,000 individuals each year, clothing and other donations help them provide basic life necessities, and their medical clinic offers health services to those in need.
On Thursday, March 28, 2024, the leadership of Merit Health Biloxi presented the donation to Geremey Merritt, executive director of Gulf Coast Community Ministries.
