Merit Health Biloxi Recognizes Patient Experience Week
4/25/2022
BILOXI, Miss. (April 25, 2022) – Recognizing and encouraging global efforts to improve the healthcare experience for patients, their families and caregivers, Merit Health Biloxi celebrates Patient Experience Week April 25 – April 29, 2022.
Patient Experience Week provides a focused time for organizations to celebrate accomplishments, reenergize efforts and honor patients as well as the people who impact patient experience every day. From nurses and physicians, to support staff and executive professionals, to patients, families and communities served, healthcare organizations across the globe come together to observe Patient Experience Week.
The theme for this year’s patient experience week is “we are all the patient experience,” an initiative Merit Health Biloxi takes seriously.
“While safe, quality care is always top priority here, I’ve often discovered it’s the little things that make such a difference for a patient,” said Rebecca Anderson, patient advocate at Merit Health Biloxi. “Things like genuine conversation, making sure they can reach all the items they need, or following up quickly on a patient request builds a relationship of trust and eases the fear and anxiety our patients may be experiencing. Our goal is to create great experiences for our patients so they have stories to share of the kind and compassionate care they received at Merit Health Biloxi.”
Merit Health Biloxi has recently added several new patient experience efforts including daily leadership rounding by directors of various departments and the CEO himself.
“It’s all our responsibility to take care of our patients,” said Landon Hise, chief executive officer. “It only takes a moment to scan a room to make sure it’s clean, ask the patient if they need anything, or respond to a call light to let them know you’re getting a nurse for them.”
Merit Health Biloxi plans to celebrate Patient Experience Week by offering free popcorn for employees and visitors each day, a flower for each inpatient served along with their lunch, snacks for visitors in the waiting rooms, flowers and coloring sheets in the ER, and a banner at the front entrance.
