Merit Health Biloxi’s Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive Collects 68 Jars of Peanut Butter for Back Bay Mission
3/27/2023
To help address hunger in our community, and in celebration of National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day on April 2, Merit Health Biloxi is donating more than 60 jars of peanut butter (and other nut butters) to Back Bay Mission.
All of that peanut butter was donated by Merit Health Biloxi’s employees, medical staff members, and volunteers during the recent Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive.
According to Feeding America, 483,700 people are facing hunger in Mississippi and 144,320 of them are children. The Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive was launched to help support individuals who are facing food insecurity, which is a social determinant of health.
Peanut butter is one of the most requested items for food banks because it is highly nutritious and has a long shelf life. Unfortunately, many food banks in America report it is also one of the least donated food items. Other foods needed by food banks include canned foods, pasta, canned meat, and condiments.
Back Bay Mission relies on the generous support of individuals and congregations across the United States. Residents of the Biloxi community can make a difference and help strengthen neighborhoods, seek justice, and transform lives on the Mississippi Gulf Coast by donating monetarily, volunteering their time, or participating in food drives and fundraisers.
